EXPLORING THE GARDENS OF PARMA

VALIDITY: ALL YEARPROGRAM: 3 DAYS/2 NIGHTADDRESSED TO: INDIVIDUALS AND SMALL GROUPSPRICE: ON REQUEST

Day 1 – Friday
Arrival in Parma in the early morning.
Meet with the guide and visit to discover some of the city’s art treasures: the Cathedral, the Baptistery and Palazzo della Pilotta.

Free lunch.

In the afternoon visit to the Ducal Palace (exterior), inside the Ducal Garden, located in the historic center, on the western bank of the Parma stream. The birth of the park is due to Duke Ottavio Farnese, who in 1561 ordered the architect Giovanni Boscoli to build a new residence, more worthy of his lineage. In the 18th century, the Bourbons converted the garden “French style” by embellishing it with neoclassical sculptures by Boudard. Later, with the arrival in Parma of the Duchess Marie Louise of Austria, the park was partly redesigned by Nicola Bettoli.
Free time for shopping.

Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 – Saturday
Transfer to Colorno for a guided tour of the Reggia and the its Historical Garden. From a Grand Park conceived by Ferdinando Galli Bibiena at the beginning of the 18th century, a combination of Italian and French style, in the first half of the 18th century it was transformed into a French-style garden based on a design by Ennemond Alexandre Petitot, until it was transformed, in part, into an English-style park in the following century under Marie Louise of Austria. Since 1994 the Historical Garden hosts the flower exhibition “Nel Segno del Giglio”, which takes place on the last weekend of April.
Transfer and visit to the aging cellars of Culatello di Zibello.

Lunch in a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, transfer to Fontanellato and visit to Franco Maria Ricci’s monumental Labyrinth. The maze has a star-shaped layout covering 7 hectares, with thousands of bamboos of different species.
Return to the hotel.

Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3 – Sunday
Transfer to Grazzano Visconti. Suspended between the past and the present, Grazzano Visconti is a magical medieval village where you can immerse yourself in a unique atmosphere, strolling through the cobblestone streets, browsing the stores and catching glimpses of hidden corners. Guided tour of the Castle Park.

Lunch in a typical restaurant.

In the afternoon, transfer and guided tour of Paderna Castle: the austere profile, solid walls, and a moat still overflowing with water take you back through the centuries. Today, a manor house, it is an organic farm, vegetable garden with ancient varieties, orchard, educational farm and home of “Frutti Antichi,” a prestigious event related to the cultivation of the land.
